History

The Singapura, as the name implies is the native of Singapore, in the South East Asia. Indigenous to the Islands of Singapore, the breed is believed to be the hybrid of the Siamese and Burmese, both of South East Asian origin. Initially unpopular, it was in the latter half of the twentieth century that the cat gained recognition and was imported to the US. The breed soon shot in fame, and is now recognized all over the world for its unique characteristics.

Appearance

One of the striking features of the breed is their wide-evident eyes that are hazel, green or yellow in color, conveying innocence and surprise. This breed is one among the smallest, yet is sturdy and muscular in build. Slightly resembling the Abyssinian cats, this breed too has long erect ears. The face is rounded and the nose is rather blunt. The tail is thin and seems to have blunt ends. It has fine-textured coat that lies flat against the body. Sepia agouti is the only color that the breed comes in.
