History

Honored as the national cat of Russia, the Siberian has an enduring history of over one thousand years. Though, there are no convincing accounts on the origin and source of the breed, the breed is believed to have arrived in Siberia with Russian emigrants. It was in the late nineteen hundreds that the breed got introduced to the rest of Europe. However, the Siberian cats are quite rare in America, but the demand is so much that breeders have long lists for kittens yet to be born.

Appearance

Conveying an agile expression, the breed is of large cats that exhibit excellent physique. The Siberian has well formed muscles and a solid round belly that develops with age. The cat has a refined wedge head that is medium sized. Vaulted forehead, not so pronounced cheek-bones, rounded chin and yellow-green round eyes set wide apart describes the facial features. The Siberians have coat that are long or medium in length and is triple layered to resist frosty climates. The hind-legs are slightly longer that makes them exceptional leapers.

Personality

The breed is of fun lovers and extremely affectionate cats. They are usually recognized as problem solvers, and are highly intelligent. With their unusual affinity towards water, these cats ate tagged as water creatures. Their attitude towards other breeds depends mainly on the early socialization training. This particular breed acts timid when with strangers.

Health Concerns

Being one of the healthiest and the hardiest of cat breeds, the Siberians are without the usual health concerns and the genetic disorders as well.
