History

The original Scottish Fold was Susie, a barn cat with long, white hair that was found at a farm near Coupar Angus in Perthshire, Scotland in 1961. A major characteristic feature of the Scottish Fold is the natural mutation in its ears; ears that are folded forward and downward on the head.

Appearance

A prominent distinctive feature of the Scottish Fold is its folded ears. The folded ears are rounded, medium-sized and well padded. The Scottish Fold breed sports big, round eyes, rounded head, cheeks, whisker pads and a long, tapered tail. There are two varieties of Scottish folds; longhaired and shorthaired. The longhaired Scottish fold possesses a medium-long to long coat, which is extremely smooth and luxuriant, a full ruff, leg britches, toe tufts, ear furnishings and a huge feathered tail. On the other hand, the shorthaired Scottish fold has a short to medium-short, thick, strong coat.

Personality

Sweet-tempered and affectionate, the Scottish Fold possesses the capability to adapt quickly to new environments and people. They always tend to crave for human attention and like to interact closely with chosen people in the household. Although they are greatly devoted to their owner, they are not clingy or demanding. The Scottish Fold breed vocalizes only on rare occasions but even then their voices are generally quiet. Highly playful and active, they thoroughly enjoy playing games and stay lively and spirited even into adulthood.
