History
Regarded as a native Russian breed, the Russian Blue owes its origin to the northern regions of Russia and Scandinavia. The Russian blue cat is known by various names; Archangel cat, Foreign Blue, Spanish and Maltese cats. They were first discovered by British sailors in Archangels, a Russian port city and brought to Britain in the 1860s.
Appearance
Sleek and beautiful in appearance, the Russian Blue flaunts a short, heavy, luxuriant double coat interspersed with silver highlights. They have pretty, emerald green eyes; straight aristocratic nose; a wedge shaped skull; long tapering tail; prominent whisker pads as well as nose leather and paw pads, which are soft and lilac in color. The Russian Blue sports a muscular body and long, slender legs and small feet. One of the distinctive features of the cat is his perpetual ‘Mona Lisa’ smile! The lustrous sheen of the Russian Blue could be attributed to its silver-tipped guard hair.
