History
Ocicats are a rare exotic and beautiful breed of cats whose origin can be traced back to 1964. Ocicats are believed to be the result of a cross between the seal point Siamese and a ruddy Abyssinian. These agouti spotted cats were recognized for CFA registration in 1966 and quickly shot to popularity. Ocicats were conferred the championship status in 1987.
Appearance
With a solid muscular body, Ocicats have an athletic appearance that steals the heart of all cat fanciers. This domestic cat, with a wild spotted beauty, evokes images of a wild cat with its striking spots and powerful appearance. It has lustrous, smooth and tight coat with a silky sheen that adds attraction to its spots. Ocicats also have a broad and square muzzle, moderately large alert ears and wide set eyes.

Personality
Quite contrary to its wild appearance, the Ocicats have a gentle and affectionate temperament. It is dedicated and devoted to its owner and does not demand too much of attention. They are quite playful and even exhibit an extrovert nature in front of strangers and visitors. They are easily adaptable and socializing and do not call for special care or grooming. They are intelligent, acrobatic and curious, and hence easily trainable. They are highly mischievous and do not wish to be left alone.
Health Concerns
Ocicats are a healthy breed with vigor and vitality and can live 15 to 18 years. But since they are a cross between pedigreed breeds, they are easily prone to certain hereditary diseases and genetic weaknesses. Certain ocicats are found to inherit renal amyloidosis, a progressive hereditary disease that causes renal failure. Also, be careful to check for dental diseases, liver and heart disorders as it commonly appears in its parent breeds.
