History

Deriving their name from the German word nebelung, which means ‘creature of the mist’, Nebelung originated in 1980 in the United States. Believed to be a cross between the normal Russian blue and the long haired Russian blue, Nebelung is a championship breed in The International Cat Association (TICA). Nebelungs are rare breeds and are found only in America and Russia. This breed was accepted for registration in September 1987.

Appearance

Nebelungs are slim, yet muscular and strong. They have a mid length coat of gray shade with a silver tipping and a dense plumy tail. The luminous quality of their lustrous tail is a noteworthy feature. It has a triangular head with a blunt muzzle and has a fine, long boned and graceful body. The ears are erect and set apart widely and round green eyes. The long hair gives rounded look to its face. Male Nebelungs weigh 8 to 11 pounds and females weigh around 6 to 9 pounds.

Personality

Nebelungs are intelligent, well-mannered and fastidious. They possess a gentle and shy demeanor but yet are affectionate and sprightly. They love to be cuddled and enjoy their owner’s presence. They have a low pitched voice and are good at retrieving. Due to their shy nature, Nebelungs take time to get accustomed to any new surrounding. They are affectionate but slightly wary towards strangers. They do not demand too much of attention, and also do not require lot of grooming.

Health Concerns

Nebelungs are generally a healthy, hardy and breed. They have very few health problems and there are no known genetic diseases too.
