History

The Havana Brown, formerly known Chestnut Brown Foreign was developed by a chance mating of a British Seal Point Siamese and another black shorthaired Siamese in the 1950s. It produced a chocolate male kitten named Elmtower Bronze Idol, which is the first registered Havana Brown in England and the predecessor of the present day Havana Brown cats. The breed is named after the rich brown color of the tobacco used to make Havana cigars.

Appearance

The Havana Brown stands out for its rich, glossy brown coat that extends evenly all over its body including the whiskers. Its nose leather and paw pads are pink that strikes a perfect balance with the coat. While the British breeds look more like the Siamese, the American version is more sturdy and muscular with a distinct grace. The expressive eyes are typically bright green and are set low on the head. Ears are prominent and the legs are long and slender especially in females.
