History

European shorthair cat is a cross breed developed by breeding the most stunning European house cats with a goal to create a healthy shorthair cat with round face. Persian longhairs and other breeds were not involved in the breeding program to ensure maximum purity. In 1982, it was registered as a separate breed. European shorthair cat is a pure descendant of the natural European house cats. It is primarily bred in Scandinavian countries like Finland, which takes pride in some of the best known shorthair breeds.

Appearance

The muscular body has an overall rectangular profile with well-defined bone structure. Chest is rounded and the legs are strong and well built. Head is rather big when compared to the body and bears a straight nose and tufted ears that are located upright. The eyes are rounded and set slightly unevenly. The tail has a well rounded tapering tip and the tufted ears are located vertically. The shiny and thick coat is water resistant and is presented in many colors like white, black, blue, red, cream, black and blue tortie among others.
