History
In 1960, a curly coated tomcat sired a kitten, Kirlee in an unused tin mine in Devon, which is considered the ancestor of all Devon Rex cats around the world. After a series of selective out breeding, Devon Rex with exceptionally good coats was developed. This is one of the most popular cat breeds, today.
Appearance
These little cats are elfin wonders of the fanciful feline world. Devon Rex cats have wide heads with low ears covered with tufts of fur and large soulful eyes. The face is short and the cheeks are full and the prominent whisker pads often lack well developed whiskers. The wavy coat is undeniably the most prominent feature of this cat and the rexing pattern might vary from free waves to small curls to deep wrinkles. The coat has a soft and smooth finish. Behind the deceptive petite looks of Devon Rex lies a sturdy and muscular frame. Devon Rexes are seen in various colors like black, white, blue, red, cream, chocolate etc in various patterns like self-colored, smokes , tabbies, torties and bi-colours among others.

Personality
Devons are very inquisitive, agile acrobatic and active. They prefer human company very much and would never miss an opportunity for a game of fetch or hide and seek. They are excellent jumpers and mostly converse with their masters in little chirps rather than conventional ‘meows’. Devons are highly affectionate and fun-loving cats that are intelligent as dogs and pranksters as monkeys, capable of enlivening any abode they live in.
Health Concerns
Hereditary myopathy is a disease condition prevailing among Devon Rex cats.
