History
The British Shorthair is perhaps the oldest pedigreed English breed of cat, which flaunts its legacy to the domestic cats of Rome. Earlier it was popularly known as the ‘British Blue’, due to the original smoke shade of the breed, though by 1950s CFA started recognizing many colors and patterns like shaded, shaded golden, bi-color, or calico under the term British Shorthair. Today, exotic ‘Brits’ are still being imported from England in order to expand the gene pool of breeders, all over the world.
Appearance
The British shorthair has a well-proportioned muscular body with a broad chest, short and sturdy legs and a thick tail that tapers towards the tip. The British Shorthair is famous for its ‘built-in-smile’ produced by its rather prominent whisker pads, which were immortalized by the Lewis Carroll’s Cheshire cat! The head is round with distant ears, and round expressive eyes. The British Shorthair has a thick luxuriant coat, which is easy to groom.
