History
Though the exact origin of this breed is veiled in mystery, the American Water Spaniel is believed to have been around since the 18th century. It was earlier used as an all-around farm and hunting dog in the Midwestern United States, particularly in Wisconsin and Minnesota. The breed is supposed to have developed from the Curly-Coated Retriever and Irish Water Spaniel, with possible additions of other early spaniels.
