Is The Doberman Pinscher Right For You?

  • 1

Doberman Pinschers are most known for their intelligence, alertness, and loyalty.

  • 2

Dobermans are very good family dogs and tend to be very gentle with children.

HISTORY

A fairly recent addition to the pure-bred universe, the Doberman Pinscher is a cross of Rottweilers, German Pinschers, Manchester Terriers, Beaucerons, and Greyhounds, resulting in what is one of the largest, most powerful breeds around. Bred to be able to thrive in even the most rough and tumble areas, this dog quickly earned their place amongst the most versatile working dogs around. They were first recognized by the AKC in 1908.

APPEARANCE

A massive, muscular dog with a squarely built frame, the Doberman Pinscher has an air of power that cannot be denied. Their head is large and their muzzle is longer. Their ears are generally cropped, but when they are not, they hang down beside their head, giving them a much softer appearance. The same can be said for their tail.

PERSONALITY

Doberman Pinschers are incredibly smart, athletic, powerful dogs. They almost demand leadership and exercise, being some of the most effective working or service dogs around. They are easy to train, as they love to please their master, but will not take orders from someone they believe to be mentally weak. If so, they will become unruly and destructive, thinking they are top dog. While they may have a reputation for aggression, this cannot be further from the truth. They may be massive, tenacious dogs, but they have no more preternatural tendencies for violence than any sweet dog you know.

color

The Doberman Pinscher, despite being thought of as always being a black and tan dog, can also be found in red, blue, and fawn, although they always have some semblance of the tan markings.
