HISTORY

The bloodline of the Bearded Collie can be traced to the crossbreeding of the Polish Sheepdog or the Polski Owczarek Nizinny with the local herding dogs of Scotland. For centuries, this breed of dog was used for herding and was known as ‘Highland Sheepdog’ and ‘Highland Collie.’ The Bearded Collie got their name from the Scottish word Collie, meaning herder, and Bearded seems pretty self-explanatory (see picture above). This breed of dog was introduced to the United States in 1967.
