Is The LaPerm Cat Good For You?

  • 1

The LaPerm cat is named for their curly fur which resembles a shaggy perm

  • 2

The LaPerm is a hypoallergenic cat which means they are usually a safe bet for those with allergies.

HISTORY

A recently new development in the Cat Fancy community, the LaPerm was first discovered in 1982 after a spontaneous mutation happened in a litter of kittens, the owner of which was smart enough to realize that something amazing had occured. Aptly named “Curly,” this cat was quickly swarmed by cat breed preservationists, aiming to help this new breed thrive. They were accepted into championship status in 2003.

APPEARANCE

The LaPerm is most known for their fur, which is curled into tight ringlets, covering their entire body, minus the face. Even their whiskers are curled. They have a medium to large size body, with long legs and a sturdy musculature. Aside from their uniquely curly fur, they are a fairly run-of-the-mill cat, with a moderately angular head, average sized ears, and eyes that come in a number of different colors. One major upside about the LaPerm is the fact that their curly coat results in a little shedding.

PERSONALITY

The LaPerm is an extremely people friendly breed that make for exceptional lap cats. They crave human contact, seeking out their owners whenever they are around, and getting as close as possible, to the point of being on top of them. They are also quite the hunter, stalking and killing any rodent with ease. Occasionally a goofball, these cats will ride around on your shoulder or paw at your face if you aren’t giving them the kind of attention they yearn for.

color

The LaPerm comes in a wide array of colors and patterns.
