The Dog Birthday Cake Bakery

All dogs deserve special treatment, especially on their birthdays! Here is a simple and doggie-safe birthday cake recipe to treat your best friend.

Birthdays are a celebration of the amazing friends we have in life, and man's best is no exception! With all the hats they wear -- reliable confidant, workout buddy, slipper fetcher, and all around loving member of the family -- it's no question that dogs deserve a special treat at least once a year. How about a dog birthday cake?

For an extra special birthday bonus, this Doggie Peanut Butter and Carrot Cake is a tasty, healthy slice of indulgence any four-legged friend is sure to salivate over. A fusion of doggie-friendly peanut butter and the nutritious sweet touch of carrots, this quick and simple recipe can be enjoyed by man and dog alike. Candles and party hats recommended, but not required.

Recipe: Doggie Peanut Butter and Carrot Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour (white or whole white)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (reduced fat or regular)
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1 egg (or egg substitute)

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix together flour and baking soda. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Spray your cake pan with nonstick spray before pouring in batter. Bake for 40 minutes.

Top it off!

Once the cake has cooled for at least 30 minutes put on the finishing touch by frosting it with low fat cottage cheese. Or, if you are looking for something a little more adventurous, follow the below recipe and create a dog-friendly frosting from scratch.

Banana Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 1 Ripe Banana
  • 6 ounces low-fat cream cheese
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Mash the banana. In a separate bowl mix the vanilla with the cream cheese. Fold in the banana with the cream cheese mixture. Spread over the cake, or refrigerate until ready to use.
