Question:

We have 2 dogs, ages 1 and 9 years old. I have heard really bad things about rawhides for dogs. I am an avid watcher of animal planet and they always have dogs with bowel obstructions, choking probs etc. I go to pet stores, and places like Target and Walmart, and they all have rows of Rawhides and that Nylabone - which has a lawsuit against them as we speak due to bowel obstruction of their product. My vet only recommends beefhide - which isn't always available but is made by ALPO - chew-eez and one type of bone., How can I hear the real deal? If rawhides are so bad - then why are they everywhere?? I mean Target has a whole row of the rawhide alone! My dogs are chewers, and I just want to do the right thing - also, they never say how many calories are in things- my baby beagle is 1 year old - loves to chew and is 30 lbs! She is on diet Iams food, and I do watch how many chews she gets, but she just loves to chew - help!!! thanks- terri

Answer:

I have never had a dog obstructed by rawhide. Buger King is not good for people and they are everywhere as well. ????Vetcare
