Question:

I bought my puppy when he was 9 weeks old and now he is 13 weeks old. I am having a very difficult time housebreaking him. I take him outside to do his business every two hours. He'll urinate outside once in a while but goes back inside to defecate and urinate more. I've tried using newspaper, wee-wee pads, and I'm still giving him lots of love and praise, as well as treats when he goes outside. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance.

Answer:

I recommend that you keep your pet in an isolated area in the house except for the times when he goes outside or when you are playing with him. Every time he goes outside give him a treat ( positive reinforcement). When he goes indoors reprimand him and bring him outside. You must be consistent and persistent. You are confusing your pet with the wee wee pads etc. The only place he should go is outside. Don't worry so much, he is still young and he will get it eventually. Good luck, vectare
