Question:

I have nn 11 year old cat that has been diagnosed with a chronic kidney infection. He was on Baytril for 6 weeks but it did not help. He has been on Orbax for about a week now and it does not seem to be helping either. Meanwhile, he contiues to loose weight and is very lathargic. What is the usual drug of choice for treating a kidney infection? Would you recommend that I get a second opinion on his treatment regimen? Thanks. Ed Pierce

Answer:

Does your cat have a kidney infection usually referred to pylonephritis? Usually we treat this with baytril, based on a culture and sensitivity of the urine. If your cat is in chronic renal failure there is no treatment. vetcare
