About Aminophylline
Aminophylline is an orally administered tablet, prescription bronchodilator for dogs and cats. Aminophylline is used to treat wheezing, heart failure, pulmonary edema, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, symptoms of asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and other lung diseases. As a bronchiodilator, Aminophylline relaxes the smooth muscle in the larger air passages, allowing for increased air flow.

How Does Aminophylline Work?
Aminophylline works by relaxing the air passages in the lungs, allowing your pet more air to breathe.
Side Effects and Warnings
Aminophylline may cause dizziness or drowsiness and should not be used in pregnant or nursing animals. Maintain constant dose at the same time each day, best on an empty stomach. May cause diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or nervousness. If these symptoms persist or your pet experiences rapid heartbeat, or an increase in appetite, drinking or urination, contact your veterinarian. Immediately contact your veterinarian if seizures, abnormal heart rhythms, allergic reactions, including facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma.
Aminophylline Interactions
Notify your veterinarian of everything your pet is taking, as interactions may occur with vitamins and supplements, phenobarbital, phenytoin, cimetidine, erythromycin, allopurinol, thiabendazole, clindamycin, lincomycin, phenytoin, lithium carbonate, or pancuronium, beta-blockers (certain heart medications, such as propranolol), ciprofloxacin or enrofloxacin (Baytril), ephedrine, halothane (an inhalant anesthetic gas), and ketamine
