How Does Excel Asprin for Dogs Work?
An enzyme called cylooxygenase-2 is rapidly produced when cells are damaged. Cylooxygenase-2 produces a chemical that sends a signal to the brain to let it know that an area of your body is injured, and then also causes the injured area to swell and become inflamed. Aspirin attaches to cylooxygenase-2 and inhibits it from producing this chemical, stopping inflammation as well as pain signals to the brain.
Side Effects and Warnings
Do not administer to humans and pets other than dogs. If your dog is pregnant or nursing, consult your veterinarian before using. If symptoms being treated persist more than three days, consult a veterinarian.

Side effects may include severe allergic reactions such as hives, facial swelling, asthma wheezing, and shock. Other severe side effects include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, darkening of stool, change in behavior, or change in water consumption. If any of these symptoms occur, contact your veterinarian and discontinue use.

Do not use this product on dogs with gastrointestinal disease, ulcers, bleeding problems, or if your pet takes blood thinning drugs or steroids. Aspirin may cause severe stomach bleeding in these cases. Also avoid use for dogs with liver or kidney impairment.
